In response to COVID-19

The Western Australian Training Awards (WATA) is the State’s premier awards program recognising excellence in vocational education and training (VET) and the outstanding achievements of our VET students, apprentices and trainees, practitioners and training providers, organisations and employers.

The Department places the highest priority on the safety and health of our students, training providers and extended communities. Unfortunately, the measures we have adopted in response to COVID-19, together with the rapidly evolving situation in Western Australia, have led to a decision to cancel the 2020 WATA program. While we realise this will be disappointing for those who were applying, our decision aligns with the State Government’s position at this time.

Australian Award direct-entry categories are still open and can be entered by visiting the Australian Training Awards website.

We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding and continued support. We would like to particularly acknowledge our WATA sponsors and stakeholders for their support of the VET sector in WA. At times like this the importance of a skilled workforce becomes very clear — both now to support Western Australians during this crisis, and in brighter times ahead when VET will have an essential role helping rebuild the economy. We look forward to working together to make 2021 a great year for the WA Training Awards.
