VET now more affordable for 2020

The Premier Mark McGowan and Minister for Education and Training Sue Ellery today announced that the State Government will reduce course fees to half price for target vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2021, under the new Lower fees, local skills program. 

The course fee rate per hour for these qualifications will be reduced by 50 per cent. The maximum annual fee students will pay is capped at $400 for concession students and youth, and at $1,200 for non-concession students.

The State Government works closely with industry to identify skills priorities, make VET more affordable for students, stimulate training in job growth areas, and support new apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities in Western Australia. The two-year initiative aims to stimulate training in job growth areas and support important sectors of the State’s economy including aged and disability care, Metronet, defence, hospitality and tourism.
